Mobilizing the Region to prepare students for the workforce - Business Education Summit

The Education Foundation will host its 16th Annual Business Education Summit, Tuesday, November 8 from 7 – 11 a.m. at Trident Technical College with a nationally recognized expert on business engagement with public education and a panel of regional leaders who are united behind mobilizing the Charleston region to prepare our students for the workforce of tomorrow.

This year’s Summit features Marc Hill, chief education officer at the Nashville Area Chamber of Commerce. Nashville’s turnaround of its schools over the past 10 years has been recognized as a national model by Ford Motor Company. Hill will discuss Nashville’s cohesive, community-wide effort to improve its schools and the resulting economic impact on the region.

A panel of regional business and community leaders will address the need for a unified effort to improve schools and learning opportunities in the tri-county area. These experts will also give insight into how their own organizations are aligning to work together for successful education reform.

“Our region depends on a workforce that is prepared to meet the challenges of an increasingly competitive global economy,” said Allen Wutzdorff, executive director, The Education Foundation. “The Business Education Summit has a track record of convening educators and leaders from the business community to engage in active dialogue about significant issues regarding the preparation of today’s students for tomorrow’s workforce.”

The Summit will begin at 7 a.m., and the program is from 8 - 11 a.m. at Trident Technical College, The College Center at the Complex for Economic Development. The cost to attend is $85 for business attendees, $50 for educators. To register visit
