The American Theatre is hosting a special screening of the new documentary, 3 Billion and Counting, a documentary that aims to expose the history, treatment and politics surrounding malaria.
The free showing is Wednesday, February 16, at 6 p.m.
The disease has killed more people than any other disease and it continues to be a problem in many third world countries. Why? Who benefits from the continuing suffering? Today 3,000 women and children die daily from this disease yet it is completely preventable.
The film is produced and directed by Dr. Rutledge Taylor, a young preventative medicine physician. Taylor will be there for a question and answer session after the viewing.
The New York Times has a short preview of the film here.
The Theatre is at 446 King Street in downtown Charleston.
