Van Liew heads back out to sea for 2010 VELUX race

Brad Van Liew gave the whole life-on-dry-land thing a go, but apparently the executive director of the South Carolina Maritime Foundation has reached his limit.

On Wednesday Van Liew announced his entry in the 2010-11 VELUX 5 OCEANS race Eco 60 Class. He won the race's Class II category in 2003.

Van Liew and his wife Meaghan fell in love with Charleston when it was the start-finish point of the 1998-99 Around Alone solo race, and the couple settled in Mount Pleasant soon after his 2003 VELUX 5 victory. They've been piloting the S.C. Maritime Foundation ever since, but resigned today to pursue their new racing entry full-time.

"Brad Van Liew is a true legend of the VELUX 5 OCEANS race and the solo ocean racing community," said race director David Adams. "His return is a great boost for this race."

The Post and Courier has more, so go take a look.
