As part of a nationwide display, some 300 people gathered around 1 p.m. today at Concord and Calhoun streets to protest voters decision to constitutionally ban gay marriage in California.

I won't wade into weather gay marriage is good or bad, I'll only say that today's march is an impressive display. Also, South Carolina's supporters of gay marriage have their own reasons to protest, as in 2006 S.C. voted overwhelmingly to amended the constitution to say "A marriage between one man and one woman is the only lawful domestic union that shall be valid or recognized in this State."

Many other states in the country have similar constitutional amendments to ban gay marriage.
