Eight students were taken into custody Wednesday at Socastee High School after an alleged assault on a 14-year-old male student, said Teal Harding, Horry County Schools spokeswoman.

The students, who range from 17 to 19 years old, are suspended pending a hearing, Harding said. The dates for all eight hearings haven’t been set yet.

Horry County Sheriff's Office and Horry County Police responded to the school and took the students into custody early Wednesday afternoon.
