Bond set for N.C. man charged in teen’s shooting death in Myrtle Beach Mall parking lot

As family members made funeral arrangements Monday for a 17-year-old Conway High student, bond was set for her boyfriend, who faces involuntary manslaughter charges in her shooting death.

Rachel Nicole Lewis, 17, of Conway, died after being shot in the head while inside a black Chevrolet Tahoe in the parking lot of Myrtle Beach Mall Saturday night.

Lewis, who was a junior at Conway High School, had recently begun dating 20-year-old Zackary Dwayne Floyd, according to authorities. Bond was set Monday at $5,000 for Floyd, of Fairmont, N.C. He was booked into J. Reuben Long Detention Center at 2:32 a.m. Sunday on the charge following the death, according to jail records.

On Monday, Horry County police Lt. Chip Squires said “the weapon was being negligently handled by the individual charged in the case.”
