Not only did the Coastal Carolina men’s soccer team ensure itself a spot in the NCAA tournament by winning the Big South championship on Sunday, but the Chanticleers showed enough to the selection committee to earn a first-round home game.
Making their fifth straight NCAA tournament appearance, the Chants will open at home Thursday night against Florida Gulf Coast while looking to leave their mark on the 48-team bracket yet again after reaching the third round the last two seasons.
“We were delighted to be in the tournament this year. I think in regards to Florida Gulf Coast, it’s great to be hosting a game again and they’ve got a very, very good program, really good history,” Chants coach Shaun Docking said after the bracket was unveiled Monday afternoon. “They’ve been to the NCAA tournament I think three of the last four years … so it will be a good matchup for us.”
