Horry County police are not searching for any child abduction suspects a day after two boys told police a man lured them into a vehicle.

Police called off their investigation Monday night after the “victims” told police they had lied to avoid getting into trouble, Denis said.

Denis did not know how much the search cost the county but said nobody will be penalized for the day-long search.

“It’s hard to calculate that stuff, because we don’t have a set hourly rate,” Denis said. “Obviously the officers went out to the scene several times, but I really can’t put a cost to it.”
