Regional Influences - The Long Bay Symphony

Featuring Narek Arutyunian, clarinet.  There has been a wide spectrum of popular cultural influences on symphony music, from Mozart's use of Turkish military percussion to the use of nationalistic folk songs and dances by Czech composer Antonin Dvorak and Spaniard Manuel de Falla. Copland's Clarinet Concerto, originally written for Benny Goodman, was heavily influenced by jazz, and Strauss took the popular waltz and elevated it to a significant symphonic genre.
