Volunteers step up to help Conway nonprofit that feeds Horry County’s hungry

For three decades, Churches Assisting People has handed out food to Horry County’s hungry.

But for the moment, it’s the Conway nonprofit that’s receiving some love.

“So many people are generous,” said Gail LaSalle, executive director of C.A.P. “People come up and they say, ‘Can I do this? Can I do that?’ ... Isn’t that amazing?”

C.A.P. is in the process of renovating the old city fire station near the intersection of Third and Fourth avenues. City officials are leasing the property to the organization for $1 per year.
