A bit about Beaufort's 16th century French and Spanish settlements

I'm not quite sure why The Island Packet picked today to profile the 16th century French and Spanish settlements on Parris Island, still it's nice to see our area's most Western historic claim get a nod.

The Spanish settlement was  Santa Elena and came some years after the French settlement of Charlesfort by Jean Ribault in 1562.
