Port Royal: A profile from history to future
TheDigitel
Seven flags over Port Royal.
Port Royal — the name is of royalty and its European history near ancient for the Americas.
(For those not in the know, French Huguenot Capt. Jean Ribaut marked it in 1562.)
But if you'd drive down Parris Avenue or do a casual Google search on the town you'd find scant info to measure up to such a background. However the town stands upon the threshold of a new dawn with the development of the closed Port of Port Royal.
It's with all this in mind that Lowcountry Weekly penned a nice two-part piece on Port Royal's thick roots and it's foretold future, in two parts:
- Part 1: Port Royal: "No faurer or fytter place"
- Part 2: The Town of Port Royal has Reason for Thanks
And you can learn loads more about the tall history and promised future on our Port Royal topic page. If you haven't done so, I'd also highly encourage you to read on the sesquicentennial of the Battle of Port Royal.
