Burnell Taylor, middle, was the fourth male in a row to be voted off.

Candice Glover nears the top spot for American Idol contestants from S.C.

St. Helena Island native Candice Glover's performance of The Rolling Stones' "(I Can't Get No) Satisfaction" earned her advancement to the top six on American Idol Thursday night.

The advancement ties Glover with Mount Pleasant's Elise Testone who also made it into the top six in 2012. Any further advancement would make Glover the top achieving contestant ever from South Carolina.

You can check out a video recap of the night up top.

Eliminated was Burnell Taylor, 18, from New Orleans. Velez is the fourth male to leave, with five females and one male left in the competition.

Glover will perform again on Wednesday, April 10, during the show's standard time slot from 8 to 10 p.m. The final show is slated for May 16.
