Write your way to and from a destination

Bamberg, Germany
Katherine Tandy Brown

Manifest
trips to exotic destinations, write about the experience and “they” will pay
for it. That is the enticement that Katherine Tandy Brown offers in her course
description.

Ms.
Brown describes
herself as an
inveterate traveler. Her latest trip, in February of 2011, was a jaunt to the
Big Island of Hawaii for a zip line rainforest canopy tour and for star gazing
atop 14,000-foot-high Mauna Kea Mountain.
Ms. Brown has been a successful freelance writer for 20 years and has
led a wide variety of writing workshops on freelance, travel, memoir and peaceful life writing (based
on meditation and recollection).  Her
arrival in Beaufort as a live-aboard
passing through on the inter-coastal waterway nine years ago is a classic
example of how she lives what she teaches.

Travel Right~Travel Write provides information on the
qualities that make a good travel writer, the types of stories and markets
available for writing and the means to make travel easy and fun.  As well, the course offers instruction on
sending a query for opportunities to write, conducting interviews as the story
of travel unfolds and developing a travel story for publication.

Participants who complete the
course walk away from the experience with a travel story in hand including a
query letter.  Past students apply what
they learn and begin their travel adventures immediately.   A Hilton Head Island spa professional secured
an invitation to join a press tour of Las Vegas to write a piece focusing on
the spa experience.  A sixty year old
retired nurse found passage to Paris via a senior living publication. A live-aboard sailor who writes at sea has just had her second
article published in a highly-respected sailing magazine. Between long-term
jaunts abroad, a thrity-something Savannah student now offers workshops on how
to travel on the cheap.

Travel Right~Travel Write is a Life Enrichment offering of the Technical College of the
Lowcountry (TCL).  This course is offered
Mondays 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. beginning April 18th and continues through
