Social media for social change potluck

Come "Eat and Surf" is this Wednesday, August 8, at 6 p.m. and chat about how to use social media for the greater good.

The group will meet in the front building at the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship at 178 Sams Point Road on Lady's Island. The informal lesson and conversation is on social networks — what, why and how.

The event is open to friends and members. Eat & Surf will be a series about various technology subjects.

The only admission price is food to share (and food for Help of Beaufort if you like). There will be a 20 minute lesson and plenty of time for questions. You can BYOD (bring your own device) as well as BYOB. There will be some time to go online with your laptops.

How powerful is social media? Social interaction on social issues can create change. We have seen organizing in Iran and Egypt using social media that create big change, but what good is it for you. We will discuss this and other technologies that support social media during this lively and interactive session. The Huffington Post wrote an interesting article on why social media matters.

RSVP on Facebook and leave a comment of what you are bringing.
