Poetry and Pancakes has been going on for a couple of years now and blends, well, poetry and pancakes.

The idea actually sprouted when Jamie Fleming and his wife, Mackenzie, were enrolled at Rutgers. They wanted to showcase the spoken word, and also understood that college students were hungry. Pancakes are cheap, and so a movement was born.

You can check out this 2009 profile of Jamie and Mackenzie written by the Island Packet's Tim Hager.

So why is P&P calling it quits? Well Jamie says it's just a matter of having too much on his plate.

"There are some really
pertinent changes on the immediate horizon to occur for and within LOUD as an
organization. That's all really, just gotta wipe the plate a little bit," Jamie said.

LOUD (Living Out Ur Dreams) is a nonprofit that Jamie and Mackenzie founded whose goal is to "promote self-awareness and academic and holistic development through training in spoken word slam style poetry, music composition, and audio production training."
