Update December 10: Didn't make it to the lighting and curious what the tree looks like? Well, the town has a photo for you.

Update December 8: Due to the poor weather yesterday, the tree lighting has been rescheduled for 6:30 p.m. today, December 8, at Live Oak Park.

We're officially in December and the Christmas celebration plans for Port Royal are coming out.

The town tree lighting will be held on Wednesday, December 7, at 6:30 p.m. and the second annual "Old Village Holiday Home Decorating Contest and Golf Cart Parade" will be held the weekend of December 17.

Old Village Holiday Home Decorating Contest: Your home must be located within the boundaries of the Old Village area of the Town of Port Royal. There is no entry fee, but you must complete and return a registration form to be judged. Pre-registration is required and due by 5 p.m., Wednesday, Dec. 14. Judging will be held between 7 p.m., Thursday, December 15 and 9 p.m. Friday, Dec. 16.

Old Village Holiday Golf Cart Parade: Participants must complete a registration form and follow the rules and regulations of the Holiday Golf Cart Parade. Awards will be based on the design or theme of your cart and the overall enthusiasm shown by your team of decorators. Participants must provide all decorations and materials. Participants are encouraged to play music, throw prizes, wear costumes relating to the season, and will be judged accordingly.

To register:
1. Complete a registration form
2. The entry fee is free to Port Royal Residents; nonresidents $25.00 per cart;
3. Entry fee payment can be made by cash or check;
4. Entry deadline is Friday, December 16, 2011

Participants will be asked to line up at the head of Paris Avenue on Saturday, Dec. 17 starting at the fire station beginning at 4:30 p.m. The parade will begin at 5:30 p.m. and will follow the designated parade route through the Old Village. The parade should finish approximately at 6 p.m. at town hall.

A first, second and third place winner will be awarded at the conclusion of the festivities.
