For all you paddlers out there and general nature lovers, here's one to add to your calendar: Higher Ground is hosting its ninth annual Paddlefest out at Hunting Island on Saturday, November 5, at noon.

The recreational racing event open to kayakers, canoers and stand up paddlers will take place the Lagoon in Hunting Island State Park.

Competitors can participate in a 3 or 6-mile race and awards will be given in each racing category and age group. Registration is available through November 2, and you may register online or in person at the store at 2121 Boundary Street, Suite 101 in Beaufort.

Proceeds from Paddlefest will, for the third consecutive year, directly benefit Friends of Hunting Island, an organization established to support Hunting Island State Park.

"We love participating in this event," said Higher Ground owner Tim Lovett. "It's a fantastic way for us to serve our community and offer a really fun outdoor event."
