Following national church break, Port Royal Episcopal group closer to an official designation

Town of Port Royal

A long outspoken local Episcopal gathering is closer to getting officially recognized by the national Episcopal Church.

St. Mark's Chapel was visited by Rev. Charles vonRosenberg on Sunday following his appointment by the national church to lead the group of churches in coastal South Carolina that have remained with national league.

I'll point you to Allison Stice's report at The Island Packet.

Many churches — including St. Helena's Episcopal — have split ways with the national Episcopal Church and are currently in a legal battle over naming and property rights.

The group meets at Port Royal's historic Old Union Church at 1004 11th Street.

The Island Packet's Cathy Carter Harley wrote a feature recently on the group and their vision.
