Port Royal mourns passing of Police Chief Jim Cadien

In a Facebook update on Thursday, the Town of Port Royal wrote, "Today we mourn the loss of Port Royal Police Chief Jim Cadien, who passed away this morning."

Cadien led the town's Police Department for more than a decade and served the town as its chief and an officer for more than 35 years. Cadien was named chief of the Port Royal Police Department in January 1998.

"I cannot say enough about what Chief Cadien meant to our town," said Port Royal Mayor Samuel Murray. "His service and leadership not only benefited every one of our residents but served as an example of what it means to be a member of the Port Royal community. He will be dearly missed."

Cadien passed at 3:15 a.m. at Memorial University Medical Center in Savannah due to natural causes.

As you might expect, there are many reports of Cadien's passing — The Island Packet's report is the only one of more substance than what you see here.

Funeral arrangements and visitation will be announced.
