According to its Facebook page, Lady's Island's Smokey Chef will be closing its restaurant on U.S. 21, though it will continue the catering side of the business.

Here's a bit of what's posted on the page:

I have reached the end of my lease (March!) and can't negotiate a reasonable "re-up" with the landlord, here. I am, therefore, currently outfitting a commercial kitchen in Beaufort - for a fraction of my current overhead - from which I will continue to do what I really love, and that is to cater - exclusively.

Smokey Chef is over on Sea Island Parkway across from Beaufort High School where Upper Crust and Fuji used to be before they moved into their new digs. 

The Island News reviewed the restaurant back in February and had nothing but good things to say about it.
