Recuits disembark at Yemassee in 1942.

Updated Aug. 27: WTOC also is reporting on the rail depot in Yemassee. Check out the coverage from Jaime Dailey here or just scroll down and watch the video below.

While the Amtrak station in rural Yemassee has managed to stay open, the old Marine Corps rail depot used by recruits hasn't, and in it the town has seen an opportunity to revatilize its history and itself and has closed a deal to buy it from CSX rail.

The Associated Press is your best bet for more information on the closing.

The Island Packet has a bit more in depth reporting about the deal when news broke of it some months back.

Also worth a look is this old Life Magazine photo of recruits at the station.
