Paying at the pump in South Carolina is no longer a cringe-worthy experience.

AAA released the most recent available average price of regular unleaded gasoline by state, and South Carolina takes the cake as being the cheapest place to fill your tank. South Carolina has the lowest average gas prices in the nation, and is the only state currently under the $3 per gallon mark. Additionally, South Carolina’s prices have fallen by about 19 percent since an early April peak of $3.70.

South Carolina generally trends lower on the national gas price scale thanks to having the fourth lowest gas taxes — at just 16.8¢ per gallon.
