Trial of Beaufort County Clerk of Court embezzlement charges begins

Update September 21: Guilty.
First reporting: Former Beaufort County Clerk of Court Elizabeth Smith faces the first day of trial today for her alleged embezzlement of more than $23,000 and related actions.

Meanwhile the county is still feeling the fallout of $210,000 that went missing and is blamed on the alleged actions of a Treasurer's Office employee, Casundra White.
