Georgia license plate contest caught up in controversy (update: New plate to be unveiled today)

Updated Aug. 22: Georgia's new license plates will be unveiled today.

You can read up on some of the controversy over the new plates, or at least the contest, below.

WSAV has coverage of today's anticipated announcement. We'll let you know which one they pick.

Reported July 16: What was supposed to be a simple contest to pick Georgia's next license plate has become a controversy pitting those who want "In God We Trust" on their plates against those who don't.

Apparently the sample plates to be voted on by the public included the "IGWT" phrase. The thing is the state didn't tell people that those were just samples and that the plates wouldn't automatically come with that phrase (Georgia already has a program where you can pay an extra buck to have it added to your plate.)

Head on over to The Atlanta Journal Constitution for a fuller story on this controversy, if you can really call it that.
