S.C., Beaufort unemployment edges up in January
South Carolina's jobless rate elevated to 8.7% in January.
Up one-tenth of a percentage point from an adjusted 8.6% in December -- it was originally 8.4% -- over 188,000 South Carolina residents found themselves without a job in January. Since January 2012, however, employment has increased by more than 26,000 workers.
Unemployment this January in Beaufort County embodied a similar trend, rising from 7.3% to 7.7%.

Nationally, unemployment rose from 7.8% in December to 7.9% in January.
