Update February 22: A pretty sizable brush fire down in Bluffton this afternoon that gave a business owner a pretty good scare.

In all more than 200 blazes were fought across the state today and dozens in the coastal areas alone.

First reporting: The South Carolina Forestry Commission is asking that folks refrain from outdoor burnings as the dry weather and windy conditions are making things perfect for those blazes to spread.

And that's just what happened on Wadmalaw Island over the weekend when a leaf fire got out of control and burned several acres — here's a video report on that at NBC News 2. And The Island Packet reports that the Burton Fire District battled four smaller but similar fires this weekend.

The National Weather Service is saying that wind gusts could hit as high as 35-to-45 MPH today and there's not a drop of rain forecast for the next several days. Today's high is set to hit 79 degrees.
