After just edging lower in September, the good news pace on unemployment rates quickened in October, falling from 10.9% in South Carolina to 10.5%.

Thanked for the change are fewer job seekers during the month and stronger employment growth — it was the first September to October decline in the rate in five years.

A gain of 10,066 jobs, brought the total number of employed South Carolinians to 1,941,778 — it was a number that outpaced labor force growth by 455 people. In all, manufacturing is continuing to strengthen, climbing 600 since last month and up 10,800 since last year.

The Beaufort area edged down 0.5% points to 8.2% while Jasper County dropped a full percentage point to hit 8.6%.
