Boat sinks in downtown Beaufort waters, resurrecting an old issue

The boat is said to be 30 feet, and the owner unkown.

Several days ago we talked about a boat that has been roaming free just off the Beaufort River next to Lady's Island, and today we'll mention another boat -- one sunk in the anchorage area of downtown Beaufort.

And that sinking inside City of Beaufort limits has resurrected interest in making sure folks don't abandon their boats in city waters, creating eyesores, navigational hazards, and environmental risks.

The Island Packet has a nice rundown on the situation and what the city hopes to do.

Also worth a note is the report that as many as six other boats are abandoned within the city's jurisdiction.

65 The boat's mast is above the water near the city's day dock.
