Rep. Erickson circulates petition opposing USC Beaufort name change

On the heels of her column opposing a proposed University of South Carolina Beaufort name change running in the Island Packet, state Rep. Shannon Erickson is circulating a petition that she plans to send to USC President Harris Pastides.

Here's that Erickson says in her email:

In
yesterday’s Beaufort Gazette “Neighbors” section and below, you will find my
latest article – this time about the move to change the name of the University
of South Carolina – Beaufort.  I am opposed to such action and wanted to
voice the basis for this opinion publicly.  In addition, I have attached a
petition which I am circulating.  I would very much appreciate your help
collecting signatures of like-minded individuals who would like to let USC
President, Harris Pastides, know how we feel.  I will need to have all of
the completed petitions back by Friday, October 29, so that I may get them to President
Pastides in a timely manner.

You can find a copy of the petition here.

We've been covering the proposed name change from the outset here and updating the story regularly, and it doesn't seem this issue will be going away any time soon.
