Continuing on their efforts to decrease unintentional teen pregnancy rates among teens in the Beaufort County School District, school leaders approved a sex-ed curriculum proposal.

The soon-to-be implemented, five-year program will intake more than $7 million worth of federal funding over its duration in exchange for the county's participation in a teen-pregnancy study. About two dozen of the area's middle schools will now take part in the University of Texas developed pregancy-prevention program: "It's Your Game, Keep it Real."
According to a recent poll conducted by the S.C. Department of Health and Environmental Control, 296 Beaufort County woman between the ages of 15-19 were impregnated last year. Furthermore, from 2004 to 2007 teen pregnancies in the county have increased 13%, despite state-wide teen preganancy rates dropping just over 1%.
