The University of South Carolina's Board of Trustees on Tuesday scaled back tuition increases at several branch campuses, including USCB which was supposed to see a 9.5 percent increase. 

Instead, USCB will jump up by 7 percent. You can read coverage of the Board's decision over at The (Columbia) State and at the Daily Gamecock.

The decision to scale back the tuition hikes is a direct result of a September mandate by the S.C. Budget and Control Board that called on the state's public colleges and universities that were planning tuition increases of more than 7 percent to put the brakes on construction projects.
