Marine Corps changes eligibility requirements for Purple Hearts
Flickr user The U.S. Army
The United States Marine Corps announced last month that they had ammended the rules regarding those eligible to receive purple hearts by incorporating including those with "mild traumatic brain injuries."
Previous rules stated that only those who were knocked "unconscious" en route to sustaining such an injury wold receive the honor. Yet because of resent advances in the fields of mental and neurological science, the Corps decided that a change was, in fact, necessary.
There's quite a lot of coverage on this out there; here's the Packet's story. The Military Times probably has the best coverage of the event though, you can their articles here and here.
