Hummer, when he was a young pup and the new mascot for Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island back in 2006.

Archibald Hummer first arrived at the Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island when he was a 14-week-old English bulldog puppy in April 2006.

By July of this year he had been promoted to the rank of sergeant.

The Island Packet reports that Hummer passed in his sleep; read their report here.

As the depot mascot, Hummer took part in Family Day and graduation ceremonies. Hummer was born in Valdosta, Georgia, to the same individual who breeds the University of Georgia mascots.

The line of dog mascots at the recruit depot stretches back to 1915 with the first, Mike, an Irish terrier.
