Rep. Wilson pushes Beaufort National Cemetery expansion
Flickr user Magna Designs
Beaufort County Representative Joe Wilson proposed legislation last month that would see the federal government purchase 4.9 acres of land directly behind the Beaufort National Cemetery for the purpose of expanding the site.
This is the second time in three years Representative Wilson has proposed an expansion of Beaufort's cemetery. The first bill, which was proposed in 2008, failed after a house committee refused to meet the land owner's $3 million asking price. The 2011 bill is currently being reviewed by a house committee before Congress formally votes on it.
