Beginner Yoga Series

Shelley Lowther
Owner, Dancing Dogs Yoga

Partnership brings yoga to the community. The Technical College of the Lowcountry’s (TCL) Life Enrichment division is partnering with a local yoga studio to offer an eight week yoga basics course.

The series is taught by Shelley Lowther, owner of Dancing Dogs Yoga in Beaufort and emphasizes asana (poses), pranayama (breathing techniques) and meditation. Ms. Lowther’s teaching style is light hearted and accented by humor.  “I believe in the power of yoga to relax, renew and restore,” says Lowther. “The Sanskrit word Santosha means contentment.  I am content to do my part to bring Yoga to a new segment of people in Beaufort.  Santosha in the City.   I think it's good for the Community.”

The Yoga 101 program begins on June 1 and meets on Wednesdays for eight weeks from 5:45 p.m. to 6:45 p.m. at the Dancing Dogs Yoga Studio, 1211 Newcastle Street, Upstairs Unit 2F in the uptown district of Beaufort.  The cost to attend this series is $89 per person. Participants are asked to wear loose and comfortable clothing and to be aware that yoga is practiced in bare feet at the studio.  As well, participants are welcome to bring their own mat for use during the class otherwise a mat will be provided at the studio.  The study of form and alignment in this course will provide the participant with the fundamental capabilities to engage in future yogic offerings with confidence.
