On November 1, 2002 Palmetto Moon opened as a seasonal kiosk in Charleston’s Citadel Mall offering collegiate gear and South Carolina products. Ten years later, Palmetto Moon has grown into a nine-store retail chain throughout the state of South Carolina offering popular brands and specialty items for every South Carolina lifestyle.

Holzer said, “At Palmetto Moon we love everything about South Carolina, and our customers do too. Because we are so passionate about our customers, our mission is to offer something that will fit the needs of every person that walks through our doors.”

Palmetto Moon founders, Bob and Karen Webster, started the company in 2002 when they saw an opportunity in the Charleston market. Prior to 2002, the duo had a combined 60 years of retail experience. Both worked at May Department stores in various merchandising roles. Bob Webster also worked at Belk Department stores, where he retired in 2002 as Senior Vice President.

Bob Webster said, “One of our daughters, Morgan was a new Clemson University student, and at the time we couldn’t find any collegiate gear in Charleston.”

The Webster’s rented two seasonal carts side by side in the Citadel Mall in Charleston, SC. For the 60 days it was open, customers swarmed the Palmetto Moon kiosk for the arrangement of University of South Carolina, Clemson University and specialized Palmetto Moon products. Since the kiosk was extremely popular during the holiday season, the Webster’s opened the company’s first store space in the Citadel Mall in Spring 2003. Their daughter, Whitney Holzer, and son-in-law, Eric Holzer, joined the company in 2005. Together they expanded the business with three new stores in the Charleston market. In 2009, their daughter Morgan Marshall, and son-in-law, Michael Marshall, joined the family business and helped continue the expansion of the company throughout South Carolina. Now Palmetto Moon has nine South Carolina locations in Charleston, Mount Pleasant, Summerville, Bluffton, Myrtle Beach, Florence and Greenville.

Holzer added, “Everything we have in our stores is a result of listening to our customers’ wants and needs. Therefore each store is different. Our stores on the coast may have more beach gear, while our inland stores may have more outdoor lifestyle products, and each store offers items that are local to the area. From hundreds of flip-flops, sunglasses, apparel, accessories, and specialty seasonal items, we carry everything South Carolina!”

“But at its heart, Palmetto Moon is one big family! The energy and excitement in our stores is so unique and special. From our outstanding tenured staff, which some of them have been with us since day one, to our amazing customers that have supported us for a decade, we all share the love of Palmetto Moon.”
