Staring in the Coastal Discovery Museum's "Grass Roots: African Origins of an American Art" is an 18-inch by 24-inch basket made in the early 20th century at Penn School on St. Helena Island — one that was recently purchased on eBay for a paltry $195.
While the exhibit wraps up soon, January 7, The Island Packet has the tale of how this basket was found and what its story is; take a read here.
But if you'd like to go learn about it in person, here's details on the exhibit.
