Set course for an amazing travel adventure

Technical College of the Lowcountry brings adventure traveler to Beaufort campus for travel abroad course

Mary Ann Haloda is not your
average traveler nor is she an esoteric vagabond.  She, like many, found herself in a
post-September 11 wake of personal discovery that set her on a course to
experience life by traveling abroad.  Her travel itinerary contains no set time
table for arrival and at times delays a departure indefinitely.  Nor does financial constraint ever factor as a
barrier in the pursuit of a destination or an opportunity for cultural immersion.

What began as a six-month
excursion to exfoliate herself from a corporate life in the United States in
2002 has now transformed into a continuously unfolding lifestyle of
travel.  Her travel tools for engaging
the next adventure are quite simple.
They include a backpack, an ability to be assertive and a few practical
notions on how to get around no matter where one finds oneself. “It’s about the
experience leading the individual and allowing oneself to be open to
possibility rather than a planned curriculum to get you from point A to point
B,” says Haloda.  Her experiential
notions of travel are exemplified in the stories she relays of performing with
the New Zealand Ballet or cage diving with Great Whites in South Africa or
negotiating to smuggle herself across the Chinese border to enter Tibet.

Mary Ann Haloda’s
passion for travel brings relevancy to the human experience and currency relative
to the travel market today.  Attendees who
participate in her course How to Travel
Abroad
arrive with the intent of exploring international travel on a budget
and depart with the information and tools necessary to begin a dynamic journey
abroad.

When not traveling
abroad or delivering her inspirational message on college campuses or contemplating
her future blog posts about the solo travel experience, Ms. Haloda calls Savannah,
Georgia her constant layover in life.
