Financial strain, resignations leave Charleston Ballet Theatre on thin ice

For the second time in less than a year, financial strain and the mass resignation of board members has put the future of the Charleston Ballet Theatre in jeopardy.

In February of 2012, seven members resigned from the nonprofit's board of directors and the Upper King Street headquarters was consolidated into a Mount Pleasant storefront.

The Charleston City Paper reports that this week, the replacement board members have resigned, leaving Artistic Directors Don and Patricia Cantwell and choreographer Jill Eathorne Bahr to run the show. Additionally, dancers' pay has been suspended indefinitely.

No word yet on how the Charleston Ballet Theatre will continue to function as a legitimate nonprofit without a fully functioning board.
