Cleveland Sellers reminds about civil rights movement

Proving that they can, in fact, read minds, The Post and Courier put up a story about Dr. Cleveland Sellers just hours after I suggested to someone that he would make for a good civil rights profile.

The Post and Courier reports, in part:

Sellers, president of Voorhees College in Denmark, a survivor of the Orangeburg Massacre and a former leader of the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee, said it was the freedom struggle of the 1950s and 1960s that laid the foundation for Obama's rise to the White House. ...

Before the Obama campaign rallied Americans through the Internet, delivered messages of hope and change and fostered a sense of community, there was the civil rights movement, which did the same things, Sellers said.

"We never thought that we would see this day," he said. "We believed we would get here, but we never thought we'd see this day."
