Register your students in one of the Lowcountry’s most popular STEM events

CHARLESTON, S.C. – Time is running out to register students in one of the Lowcountry’s most popular educational events of the year.  The Citadel's STEM Center of Excellence, in an event co-sponsored by Google, is once again hosting Storm The Citadel! 2014 Trebuchet Competition. The event on February 15, 2014 allows teams of science, technology, engineering and math students (elementary through college) as well as those from community groups, the military, and South Carolina businesses to compete.

The Citadel’s Physics Department provides a free workshop for for all team teachers/mentors and adult-team leaders one month prior to the event. After teams design and build a trebuchet (a machine used in medieval warfare), they arrive on campus for a day of launching competition with awards going out for accuracy, distance, spirit and design.

-Hoplite Division (Grades K-5)
-Centurion Division (Grades 6-12, College/Org/Military)
-Barbarian Division (By Invitation Only

About Storm The Citadel!

This marks the fourth year of the Storm The Citadel! event. The 2014 trebuchet competition is part of The Citadel’s National Engineers Week celebrations to increase public awareness and appreciation of the engineering profession. The Citadel, home to the fifth oldest engineering school in the United States, and Google are dedicated to providing opportunities and initiatives to support science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) programs in Lowcountry schools.  Annually, the events attract nearly 1,000 people, including more than 300 competitors from approximately 40 teams and enthusiastic observers.
