Chamber jumps into the Myrtle Beach social coupon fray

As a service to Chamber member businesses, the Myrtle Beach Area Chamber of Commerce has teamed up with Try It Local to offer email based social coupons.

Myrtle Beach has been a coupon town ever since dotted-line borders have existed. Despite our area's abundance of retail businesses, the national heavyweights Groupon.com and LivingSocial.com have overlooked us. It may be too late for them anyway as other smaller efforts like Try It Local start to saturate the market.

Groupon.com brought the concept of group buying and leveraging to the online masses by making it fun and easy to do. The general concept is to get a local business to offer an attractive discount based on the promise of getting them a certain amount of new customers. The deal is presented online and bargain hounds are encouraged to get their friends in on the action. If enough people commit to the deal, everyone will get the bargain. Otherwise the deal won't go through but the retailer still gets some online exposure out of it.
