Charleston Fashion Week, one of the leading fashion weeks in the United States, was bigger and better than ever in 2012.
With record attendance, sponsor participation, and national & international media impressions, the event made a significant impact to the local economy. According to the Office of Tourism Analysis at The College of Charleston, Charleston Fashion Week 2012 boosted the local economy more than $2.4 million in its sixth year of existence, and the event had the following characteristics:
- 48+ million media impressions to include TV, print, radio and social media
- Total expenses per attendee was almost $2,000 for out-of-town guests and almost $700 for residents
- The 7,500 attendees were highly educated with significant disposable income
“We are very pleased with the continued success and growth of the 2012 Charleston Fashion Week and the recent survey results reinforces the growing economic impact the event. We would again like to thank the community, our employees, the participating retailers, our various vendors and sponsors for their support, and we look forward to working with them again in 2013,” said Jed Drew, the president of GulfStream Communications, which owns and produces Charleston Fashion Week, as well as Charleston magazine. “Regarding 2013, we anticipate announcing some exciting new additions over the coming months, and the 2013 event is scheduled for March 19-23, 2013.”
