Update June 25: The Post and Courier reports that Willie Jewell's Old School Bar-B-Q will open in August at 8983 University Boulevard in North Charleston. Go get the brief.

First reporting:

Jacksonville-based Bono's Pit Bar-B-Q is looking to open a new joint in West Ashley or North Charleston.

BBQAnd, as you might expect with a downturned economy, they're looking to keep the dining experience simpler and cheaper.

Go get the details at The Post and Courier.

Here's a bit about the company from their Web page:

When Lou Bono fired up the pits of his first restaurant in Jacksonville back in 1949, little did he know that his food would one day be celebrated as the quintessential southern style Bar-B-Q. This was not just another barbecue joint, Lou cooked his meats the traditional way; in specially designed pits over wood, and watched carefully by a Pit Boss. Thanks to Lou's tireless efforts and a smoky sauce that out-zinged the competition, Bono's became an immediate success.

Presently Bono's has eateries in Florida and Colorado. I know, I'm perplexed, too.
