The Post and Courier reports that cages are full at the Charleston Animal Society; the most disheartening part being most of the animals brought into the shelter are pets.

Pet owners are having to give up their furry friends due to the harsh reality of the recession, and the Charleston Animal Society is taking a hit as well. With over 300 animals in the shelter, food and man power to give the animals enough attention is a hot commodity.
