Steve Albright reported last month in his CFCA Notebook about the Civic Association's effort to work with the Keep Horry County Beautiful project to beautify the entrance to Carolina Forest. We have more details below from Curt Johnson.
"Last fall Bo Ives submitted an application for a grant to Palmetto Pride. Bo Ives and I represent the Families In the Forest committee which is chaired by Colleen Mills. On January 18th we were present at the Palmetto Pride award ceremony in Columbia to accept a $2000 check. This grant is to be utilized to beautify two high traffic areas into and out of Carolina Forest. Chris Klement, Senior Planner for Horry County was instrumental in helping us get approvals from two Horry County council members. In addition, Chris is the county liaison with Horry County Beautiful: A volunteer group that is part of Horry County Parks and Recreation. They are a sponsor of our grant request."
Two beautification area's as submitted in the proposal are as follows:
- Median along Carolina Forest Blvd at Gateway. Between the Carolina Forest Elementary school and Canterbury apartments.
- Median on River Oaks drive just before International Drive.
Johnson adds, "We will plant various flowers, plants and bushes to create an attractive entrance/exit from Carolina Forest. Our entire organization is excited about enhancing the natural beauty of Carolina Forest. The projected date of completion is May."
