The Coastal Cupboard Adds Chef Brayn Breland to Host In Store Cooking Classes

Brad Pitner, owner of The Coastal Cupboard in Mount Pleasant, S.C., is pleased to welcome Bryan Breland as new In House Chef for the store. Breland will host a variety of cooking classes every week in the store’s state-of-the-art kitchen. With his diverse culinary background, customers can expect a wide assortment of classes to choose from.

Pitner said, “I’ve known Bryan for many years and he is beyond talented. His love for food and zeal for life come together on the plate creating an unforgettable dish time after time.  We are excited to have him at The Coastal Cupboard as he delights and inspires our cooking class guests.”

California native, Breland grew up in Newport Beach and attended the University of California Santa Barbara (UCSB) where he graduated with a major Political Science and minor in Spanish. But his passion for food and cooking started at an early age as he watched his mother in the kitchen. Part Americana, Mexican and Thai, Breland was exposed to numerous foods and cooking techniques when he was growing up. He later added formal training to his homegrown talent, mastering a unique style of cooking.

Breland moved to Hilton Head, S.C. in 2007 and worked in the kitchen at The Sage Room, a fine dining restaurant, for the next three years. He then ventured to Charleston, S.C. and worked at Caviar and Bananas for nearly three years. There he specialized in charcuterie where he cures an array of meats and made fresh cheeses daily. He also worked at Huck’s Lowcountry Table on Isle of Palms followed by managing a Piggly Wiggly store in Mount Pleasant before the franchise was sold.

“Food is love. You don’t just cook with your hands; you cook with your heart and soul. Whether you are making your grandmother’s traditional recipes or experimenting in the kitchen, there is so much love and life that passes through food,” said Breland. “I want the classes to be a fun outlet for everyone. Whether you are just starting out in the kitchen or you could write a cookbook, my goal is to simply inspire you to cook.”
