COLUMBIA CITY BALLET PRESENTS THE FULL-LENGTH PRODUCTION OF A MIDSUMMER NIGHT’S DREAM
CELEBRATING WILLIAM SHAKESPEARE’S 450TH BIRTHDAY!

COLUMBIA, SC — Columbia City Ballet brings the magic of Shakespeare’s greatest romantic comedy, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, to Charleston Music Hall. A Midsummer Night’s Dream is the comical, romantic story of four lovers and a troupe of amateur actors caught in a quarrel between Oberon performed by Principal Dancer Journy Wilkes-Davis and Titania performed by Principal Dancer Claire Kallimanis, the King and Queen of the forest, turning their world upside down with hilarious consequences.

The Columbia City Ballet has produced this comedic masterwork five times since its premiere 37 years ago, hailed by The State as “delightful…you are in for an enchanted evening.” Executive & Artistic Director William Starrett’s choreography blends Shakespeare’s greatest comedy with the grace and grandeur of classical ballet in an enchanting tale that’s perfect for the whole family. The highly respected score, composed by Felix Mendelssohn, was named early on by critics as “the greatest marvel the world has ever seen in music.”

“A Midsummer Night’s Dream is one of the few major comedic full-length ballets,” said Starrett. “The appeal of A Midsummer Night’s Dream is that it is such a great blend of comedy, classical dance and fantasy versus reality within the story. Its quick wit and high energy make it the perfect classical ballet for today’s fast-paced, technology driven audience.”
