A few years back during the housing boom, you could practically get a mortgage by just showing your credit score. Some of this was due to relaxed lending policies by the underwriters and some of it was due to mortgage agents essentially falsifying documents.

In Myrtle Beach, the result was housing developments and condos were being bought and sold at a dizzying pace. Some of those unethical individuals took advantage of the frenzy by playing a shell game with funds and paperwork. Then the boom busted and many innocent people were hung out to dry.

David Wren at The Sun News has a write-up on the latest case uncovered by the investigation as well as a summary of other individuals facing felony charges. Read it here.
